Nassau, NY Loop

This loop is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes in length, through country roads with very few stops. The ride, as defined here, starts and ends in Nassau, NY (20 minutes east of Albany, NY, 35 minutes west of Pittsfield, MA). This is a complete loop though, so you can start and finish anywhere along the route. This ride will take you past creeks, ponds, lakes, country estates, horse farms, barns, mountain views and more. The ForkCam video is from a very dreary day — hopefully you’ll have better weather! Although, these beautiful winding roads through small towns and sparsely populated farmland will surely cheer you up, even on a gloomy day.

From US route 20 heading east, in Nassau, NY, turn right on New York State route 203 heading east. Travel for 22.9 miles, then in Austerlitz, NY, turn left on New York route 22 heading north . Travel 0.7 miles, then turn left on county route 5 heading north. Go six miles, then turn left on county route 24 heading west. In 3.4 miles turn right on county route 9 heading north. Go 3.2 miles then, in East Chatham, turn right on NY 295 heading east. Go 1.1 miles and turn left on county route 9 heading north. In 6.2 miles, turn left on US 20 heading west, and travel 8.2 miles to return to Nassau.

Tips: In Valatie, NY 203 comes to a “T”, turn right to stay on 203. In approximately 1/4 mile, turn left to go over the bridge and continue on NY 203. In Austerlitz, when you make the left on to county route 5 from NY 22, watch for oncoming traffic to your right.
