Averill Park-Ooms Preserve Loop

A nice ride, approximately one hour and thirty minutes in length with stunning long mountain views, and a beautiful destination. Stop by Ooms Preserve with your picnic lunch and enjoy the view of the distant mountains and the Hudson River valley below. The directions start in Averill Park, but you can pick up the loop anywhere along the way. There are also several connections for this route that will take you into Vermont and Massachusetts for more stunning mountain views!

Directions: In Averill Park, NY take county 51 (Burden Lake Rd.), heading south. Continue straight at Hoags Corners onto county 15. When you come to a “T”, turn left on NY 203 (Elm St.), heading south into Nassau. In North Chatham, turn left on county 17, continuing south. In Chatham Center county 17 merges with NY 66 south. Continue straight on 66, and take the first left onto county 13, then take the next right onto Rock City Rd. After Ooms Preserve, take a left at the “T” onto NY 295 north. Take left on county 9 heading north. Take a right on county 34 heading east, then a left on county 5 heading north. Take a right on US 20 east, then a left on county 5A heading north. Bear left on county 28, then take a left on on county 26 heading west. Take a right on county 23 heading north, which will take you back to NY 43. Take a left on NY 43 west to head back to Averill Park.

Tips: This is a pretty straightforward ride. It seems like a lot of turns, but most of the “turns” have you heading in the same direction. Make sure you take Burden Lake Road (directly across from the Lakeview Inn) heading out of Averill Park, not Eastern Union Turnpike (they’re right next to each other). Also, don’t miss the turn onto Rock City Road, it’s right after you turn onto county 13, but the street sign is not highly visible
